Evil87GN (Slo86GN)'s new TTA.

This is a 1989 Turbo Trans Am, which was powered by the venerable 3.8 Turbo engine that found fame under the hoods of the Turbo Regals. However, there were some differences when comparing the two. Because of the tighter confines under the hood of the Trans Am, the cylinder heads were sourced from the 3.0 litre V6 found in front wheel drive sedans. The intake plenum is lower profile for hood clearance. The block featured slightly stronger main webbing, but still had the proven rolled fillet crank found in the TR engines. The transmission was the same 200R4 as the TR's, but with the GNX valve body/shift kit. The intercooler also featured a higher fin count than a standard TR intercooler, making it more efficient. The TTA also had parts sourced from the best GM had to offer in other vehicles....1LE braking package from the SSP Camaros, WS6 handling suspension were just two areas. The 89 TTA was also one of the fastest production F-bodies ever built, with an ungoverned top speed of 155 mph. With minor tweaks, the TTA is capable of passing 160+ mph in near stock trim. That's why the car was able to pace the INdy 500 with only safety upgrades and a sticker package....no performance add-ons were needed. Production was limited to only 1550 cars, with 5 more cars being test/pilot vehicles. As of right now, estimates are that less than 1,100 of these very special 3rd Generation Trans Ams still exist.

This particular car was originally sold in Memphis, TN and was brought back to Greenville, MS where it spent all of it's life. I stumbled over the car at a used car delaership in Greenville while on a business trip to the area. After talking to the dealer, I found out the car had been parked outside, under a tree, for 2 1/2 years....by the original owner, nonetheless. That was shocking, especially considering the car was $33K new in 1989. Seems like the orignal owner would have at least covered it up, but did not. Fortunately, I got the car for a VERY good price and brought it back to GA to keep my '87 Turbo T (Ol Gray) company. Car is 99% original and has full documentation....even has the key ring that came with the owner's kit. Right now, the odometer shows just over 48,500 miles. Plans call for some cosmetic work to erase the show of neglect, then a few very minor upgrades. Otherwise, this car will remain in near showroom stock condition.
